After graduating in Computer Science, I worked as a software developer at a SaaS company, dealing with APIs, cloud services and asynchronous coding.
I heard about SciLeads while actively looking for new jobs that I thought would fit my profile. I was looking for something challenging, that allowed me to work with plenty of data, in a friendly and fast-paced environment, while also allowing for flexibility and adaptability. I also really liked the idea of being in a small company, where I'd be able to actually have an input in their next steps. Lastly, I was interested in an international opportunity, where I'd be able to grow and learn, as well as familiarize myself with different cultures. After I was done reading the job description, everything seemed to fit like a glove, so it was only natural for me to apply.
Currently, I work as a Senior Software Engineer. It involves tackling daily challenges, trying to come up with the best course of action for each of them, while discussing with the team to ensure that we can deliver everything our customers hope for and a bit more. It is hard and rewarding work.
I live in Brazil, and some of my colleagues live in timezones with over 8 hours difference. It's quite interesting, to be fair. I believe that the key point is to have everyone understand that we are working in a remote setting and this is simply part of the challenge. We have overlaps, but I've never really had any problems with sending or receiving messages before/after working hours. The team is really strong together, and we know that we can count on each other whenever we need to, while also knowing to respect each other's time and privacy.
I usually get up an hour before work. I like to have my morning routine so that I can start working fresh and inspired. I then take a few minutes to catch up with what's happened since my previous work day and then proceed to tackle the tasks at hand. These usually involve plenty of coding, testing, some meetings, and discussions to ensure everyone is on par with how to approach some challenges. There is also quite a bit of socializing, even though we are in a remote setting, and I really like it. As for keeping a good work/life balance, I feel like the company gives us plenty of space to do so. I have flexibility in regards to my working hours, and have no problems with lunch or coffee breaks either. After work, I feel like I can relax and enjoy my leisure time, instead of feeling the pressure of working extra hours. All of these contribute to having a healthy daily routine.
I'm still in the process of using it! I've already got a new chair, mic, webcam, and I intend to get a new mouse soon. I love the flexibility of being able to choose what to improve and having such a generous allowance to do so. For my dream setup, I'd definitely grab one of those sit/stand desks, as well as a new monitor and a coffee subscription.
I intend to use my PDA to get a few courses/certificates I've been meaning to grab for some time now. I think that it's important to keep learning, as well as keeping ourselves up-to-date with the latest technologies in the area.
I'd say they definitely should! SciLeads is a great place to work. Everyone is very welcoming, the daily work is interesting and full of challenges, the company is growing and has so much potential! If you're looking for a new job with great opportunities, definitely give SciLeads a try!
