During the annual Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards held in Dublin, Ireland, Laura Haldane won the Advocate for Women in Technology Award. This award is given to an individual who has demonstrated through their actions that they are an advocate for increasing participation by and promotion of women in the technology sector.
Laura has received this award as recognition for her exemplary leadership and support of women in tech, both within SciLeads and the wider scientific industry. Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to innovation, she has also played a pivotal role in driving the company’s growth and success within the highly competitive tech landscape. Most recently, her contributions were instrumental in the successful launch of SciLeads’ new BioPharma product.
As a co-founder of SciLeads, from the outset Laura has pioneered a 100% flexible working culture through the company’s fully-remote working policy; allowing its global staff to work freely around their family commitments and strike a good work-life balance. As VP of the sales team, Laura still takes a hands-on approach to supporting new members of the team, many of whom are young women and SciLeads is their first job after university. Laura founded the SciLeads’ Sales and Marketing Graduate program to bring more local talent to the tech field, including those without degrees, to offer inclusive opportunities to those who may not otherwise be able to get a break in the tech industry. With an average in the tech industry of a 3:1 ratio of men to women, Laura’s impact can be felt, with 48% of SciLeads staff identifying as women.
Laura has been a board member for organizations supporting sales and marketing professionals in science, hosting regular webinars to share what she has learned through her successful career and organizing global conferences to teach others, particularly women, how to use AI effectively. She has also pioneered awards for scientific sales and marketing professionals to celebrate and support their achievements. She regularly helps other woman business owners, most recently as part of the Women in Business Northern Ireland mentor program where she offers candid advice and hands-on help to start-up companies.
