Q&A with Sebastian Lanfranco – Business Development Manager

Sebastian lives in Montreal, Quebec, and recently joined SciLeads as a Business Development Manager. We recently asked him a few questions about life at SciLeads:

What did you do before SciLeads?

Before joining SciLeads as a Business Development Manager, I was doing business development for a different type of prospecting – mineral prospecting.  I worked for an Australian company that makes 3D simulation software specific to mineral exploration. Basically, helping geologists and mining engineers visualize their exploration data and plan their future mining project.

How did you find the interview process at SciLeads?

It was straightforward – over the span of less than 2 weeks I did an online assessment, an initial video call with HR, a video call with Sales leadership, and shortly after received an offer. I liked that I always knew where I was in process (for example, after the initial HR call they let me know that it would take a few extra days before chatting with Sales because everyone across the entire company was flying out to Belfast for the annual companywide summit).

How has the flexible work environment at SciLeads helped you?

It’s amazing. Living in Montreal with a young family and a couple of dogs, the flexibility allows me to put in the hours when I’m feeling most productive, and be able to plan around daycare, dog walks, swimming lessons, etc. It’s also impressive to see how seamless the collaboration is between colleagues in Europe and North America, which in my opinion comes down to SciLeads being remote-first and having the right infrastructure and tools for us all to be successful (vs implementing it as an afterthought and trying to retrofit systems and tools).

What has been your favourite aspect of your role as a Business Development Manager and your experience working at SciLeads so far?

That’s a good question. I could go on about how passionate and smart my colleagues are, or how we all love the flexible work arrangement. But honestly, for me it’s what the SciLeads platform enables that gets me excited every morning (and the platform’s only getting better). Our customers have amazing, often lifesaving, solutions to real world issues and challenges. But sometimes incredible products don’t take off simply because the right people didn’t see it, or at least not at the right time. And that’s where SciLeads comes in. Companies using the insights from the platform are giving themselves the best possible chance at success, which can sometimes be the difference between make or break. I think that’s pretty special.
